Kat Starr

Kat began playing viola at the age of nine and knew that sharing a passion for music would be a lifelong joy.  As a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter, Kat performs a wide range of musical genres from the Celtic and Appalachian traditions to classical, blues and jazz. She lives and teaches in Cookeville, TN, with her husband, Clay Faris, two kitties, and studio dog, Janet.

Kat Starr Music (KSM)

...was established in 2009 with a simple mission ~
  to inspire a love of music

Kat holds a degree in Music Education from Tennessee Tech University.  KSM offers private and group lessons to students age 5 through retired on violin, fiddle, viola, cello, guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and piano.  

 

Kat teaches a thriving studio of 30+ students, holds yearly fall recitals at the Cookeville Performing Arts Center.  Her students also perform at area nursing homes to give new musicians opportunities to perform and as a service to residents.

In this group, Kat gets to shine as a singer/songwriter and guitarist along with her husband Clay Faris on bass.  Members Michelle Smith (vocals), David Klein (djembe and vocals) blend 3-part harmonies as they bring their unique style to jazz, blues, folk, and Americana.  Indus Tennessee can be booked for wedding receptions, parties, and other events.

Classic Blend Trio

 

...offers string music for special occasions.

 

Classic Blend is a string trio based in the Upper Cumberlands of Tennessee. We offer string music for weddings, receptions, corporate events, dinner parties, and other events. Members Zachary Carpenter (violin), Kat Starr (viola), and Laura Kristoff (cello) have decades of combined performance experience, and can complement any elegant affair with their eclectic repertoire spanning Bach to pop.
